Scientific research by Tomas Chacon

Tomàs Chacon, II° degree, member of Samjok-O and the national team, did scientific research concerning the effects of HIIT on hypoxia. Some members of the belgian national team were some of his study objects.

Some words written by Tomàs:

I am pleased to present to you the recent scientific research entitled: “Effects of High-Intensity Interval Training in Hypoxia on Taekwondo Performance”, which is published in the prestigious “Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance” (https://journals.humankinetics.com).

Together with members of the “Université catholique de Louvain” (Louvain-La-Neuve – Belgium), we have conducted research on the valuable effects of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in hypoxia and/or normoxia to improve the performance in Taekwon-Do practitioners.

This study was carried out with the participation (between others) of Taekwon-Do practitioners from ITF-Belgium, from the different regions (Flanders, Brussels and Wallonie).

I am very grateful to the Belgian Federation and to all the people who participated in this study for their collaboration and contribution to the science, which through it, we can base our work as athletes, instructors or professionals on.

You can find the publication in the following link, or you can contact me directly by e-mail:

Belgium in lockdown again

As Belgium is facing a second lockdown, starting from November 2nd on and for at least another 6 weeks, all sport facilities have been closed. Most clubs took up digital training sessions again. The planned face-to-face activitities ITF-Belgium are cancelled or postponed for the time being. Just as in the periode March-June we’ll come up with online alternatives, so stay tuned to keep updated.

Meanwhile: stay strong, stay safe, take care about yourselves and the your loved ones! Together we can beat that virus!

Extra measures for sports

Extra measures where taken, in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, also concerning sportclubs and sports facilitities.

There are some slight differences between the regions, as e.g. in the Brussels region all sport facilities are closed, while in Wallonie and Flanders indoor sport is still possible for children up to 12.

Contact your instructor to hear more about the measures and possibilities in your dojang.
