ITF-Belgium exists since december 1990.
Member of ITF and AETF since 1990.
Pioneer : Master Frank Vanberghen.
In 1979 Mr. Frank Vanberghen started with ITF Taekwon-Do in Germany, since he was living there for his job.
In Belgium, he had already practised Shotokan Karate during 6 years.
In 1990, he became 4° degree black belt.
During a seminar with General Choi Hong Hi, also in 1990, the father of Taekwon-Do asked Mr. Vanberghen personally to start a federation in Belgium.
And so ITF-Belgium was born. First with one school in Ghent, Juche, but soon there came other clubs.
Our pioneer stayed president of the federation until december 2000.
Already in 1992, a Belgian team participated at the World Championships in North-Korea.
In October 2004, Frank Vanberghen became Master VII°degree, the first Master for ITF-Belgium.
He was promoted to Senior Master 8th degree in November 2010.
During the 2018 World Cup in Sydney, Frank Vanberghen was promoted to the highest possible degree in Taekwon-Do, GrandMaster IX°degree, the first and only GrandMaster in Belgium.

The mission of ITF-Belgium is the development of ITF Taekwon-Do in Belgium, with the 4 facets of Taekwon-Do as a guideline: Taekwon-Do as a martial art, as a sport, as a tool for social development and as a way of life.
ITF Taekwon-Do, taking into account the values and the tenets, is a martial art open to anyone regardless of age, gender, background, religion, ideologie etc. With this, ITF-Belgium is contributing to the wellbeing of the society and its members.
So far ITF-Belgium was the host for 3 International Instructors Courses with the ITF Technical Committee.
The 88th IIC, which was organized in Oostende November 22nd-24th 2013 was one of the biggest International Instructors Courses of the ITF ever, and for sure the biggest one in Europe until now. It was a historical event with 236 participants, amongst them 2 GrandMasters, 19 Masters and 2 ITF Board Members. For the first time the IIC was only open to black belts. No less than 21 countries were represented : Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, GD Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Scotland, Spain, Sweden & Switzerland.
Classes were conducted by the ITF Technical Committee, GM Hector Marano (Argentina), GM Lan Ung Kim (Germany) and GM Willem Jacob Bos (Italy).
In 2007 ITF-Belgium organized the 28th IIC (October 19th-21st) and in 2004 (October 22nd-24th) the 8th IIC, both near Brussels.
In 2007 ITF-Belgium welcomed 148 participants, red and black belts, from 13 countries, with 19 nationalities and 9 Masters while the IIC of 2004 had 112 attendees from 12 different countries : Algeria, Belgium, England, Finland, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Spain and Sweden.
In both cases the Technical Committee consisted of GM Hector Marano (Argentina), GM Pablo Trajtenberg (Argentina) and GM Willem Jacob Bos (Italy). In 2004 GM Tran Trieu Quan, ITF President at that time, and GM Van Binh were present as guest of honour. They also conducted some of the classes.
ITF-Belgium is the national federation for ITF Taekwon-Do in Belgium. We support affiliated Taekwon-Do clubs, organise national trainings, seminars and championships, and represent Belgian athletes within the international ITF community.
